The Shortlist for Sept. 18

Russell Simmons believes his Chihuahua was dognappedYes, really. And it's more than a hunch. "The Bodyguard Group of Beverly Hills, 100% Navy SEAL & U.S. Veterans found kidnapped dog!" read a tweet posted by the hip-hop legend over the weekend. It seems that after Simmons and his girlfriend, Hana Nitsche's dog went missing, the couple offered a $5,000 reward for its return. According to the New York Post, the Carranzas -- a family based in Palmdale, Calif. -- claimed to have found the Chihuahua and was prepared to send the little guy home. When Nitsche arrived at the family's house, however, she had members of the Bodyguard Group of Beverly Hills on hand. One of the bodyguards, Richard Davis, tells the Post that the family had used a voice disguiser to contact the high-profile couple and even threatened Nitsche over the phone before giving their name and asking for the reward. "We [had] been passive because we [didn't] want them to kill the dog ... they told her [Nitsche] has to come alone; no police," Davis tells the tab. Simmons has reportedly refused to fork over the $5 grand, despite the family's continued claims of innocence.
