TV News Roundup: Jamie Foxx To Executive Produce Marvin Gaye Series

In today’s TV news roundup, Jamie Foxx has been slated to executive produce an upcoming Marvin Gaye limited series, Z Living announced three new series as part of its new Tuesday primetime lineup, and more.

DEALS

Jamie Foxx will executive produce a limited series revolving around legendary singer Marvin Gaye. The project will be produced with Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones of de Passe Jones Entertainment, who will shop it to various outlets, both linear and digital. Although several others have attempted to get series about Gaye off the ground, none before this have had the approval of the Gaye family. The Foxx-produced series has the blessing of Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III.

Cable network Z Living will premiere three new original series, “Finding Fido,” “Altar’d,” and “POPSUGAR Presents: Conquered” in a new primetime programming block beginning Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. “Finding Fido” stars author Seth Casteel as he meets hopeful pet owners-to-be and dogs in need of homes. “Altar’d” features six engaged couples on the quest to lose weight and live healthy lifestyles before the wedding date. “POPSUGAR Presents: Conquered” sheds light on the unique stories on the people who have broken extraordinary boundaries to achieve their goals.

EXECUTIVES

Masami Yamamoto and Lee Straus have taken on new roles at NBCUniversal. Yamamoto has been elevated to executive vice president of business affairs, scripted programming for NBC Entertainment & Universal Television, while Straus will take on the role of executive vice president, business affairs, alternative/reality and specials programming for NBC Entertainment & Universal Television Alternative Studio. Both have been with NBC since 2000 and will continue to report to George Cheeks, President of Business Operations and Late-Night Programming for NBC Entertainment.

Discovery Communications has promoted Jane Latman to executive vice president, development and research for Investigation Discovery (ID), Destination America, and American Heroes Channel. Most recently, Latman served as senior vice president, development for ID and general manager, Destination America.
