Warner Bros, MGM Land YA Novel ‘The Sun Is Also A Star’; Tracy Oliver To Adapt

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros and MGM have teamed to acquireThe Sun Is Also A Star, the YA bestselling novel by Nicola Yoon. Tracy Oliver has been set to write the script. Alloy Entertainment’s Les Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton will produce. Novel is the second by Yoon, whose debut Everything Everything was turned into a film by MGM, Warner Bros and Alloy, dated for May 19, 2017 release. The new novel, a finalist for the 2016 National Book Award, has a timely premise: Two teens fall in love on one fateful day as she fights against her family’s deportation.

Oliver, who will be exec producer, scripted Barbershop: The Next Cut, the upcoming Girls Trip for Universal Pictures, and she wrote, produced and starred in The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl. She is currently developing the Misty Copeland dance drama for 2oth Century Fox Television.

Warner Bros and MGM last teamed on the Jojo Moyes’ novel adaptation Me Before You which starred Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, and the Chloe Moretz-starrer If I Stay, an adaptation of the Gayle Forman YA bestseller. Niija Kuykendall will oversee for Warner Bros, and Matt Dines for MGM.

Oliver is repped by ICM, Principato Young Entertainment and Myman, Greenspan.
