As with much of the marketing to date for the 2017 “Twin Peaks” sequel series, Showtime is keeping its cards close to its vest when it comes to showing people actual footage. Its latest missive is a 30-second spot, of which 20 seconds is spent merely watching co-creator David Lynch consume a glazed donut.

Lynch, who is serving as sole director of this go-round, working from a single long shooting script, is in character as FBI Deputy Director Gordon Cole, bearing Cole’s hallmark hearing aids.

After a lengthy gestation time — the current batch of episodes has been in the works since 2014 — the “Twin Peaks” sequel will debut sometime in 2017 on Showtime, with the plot picking up some 25 years after we last saw Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) et al. Details remain scarce, other than that a female FBI agent has found a dossier related to Dale Cooper and Twin Peaks. Showtime also released the full cast list of 217 names in April 2016, indicating the return of a large chunk of the original crew and the involvement of big-name newcomers like Jim Belushi, Trent Reznor, Laura Dern, and Naomi Watts. The first two seasons of the series, which originally aired on ABC, will be available to Showtime subscribers starting Dec. 26.
