Dramatic Helicopter Rescue of Families Trapped on Rooftops
Severe flooding in Brazil trapped people on their rooftops, and rescuers had to pull them to safety using helicopters. It happened in the southern state of Santa Catarina. Heavy rains over the weekend caused rivers to swell, overwhelming several towns. In the wake of the rains, at least 17 cities in the region have declared a state of emergency. Santa Catarina’s Civil Defence agency reported that almost 900 people have been evacuated.
