Mount Etna Eruption Forces Closure of Two Airports

Lava and ash spewed from Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy, after it erupted on July 19, forcing the closure of two airports, according to local news outlets. Catania Airport was closed until 6.30 am the next morning, while Comiso Airport also grounded flights, reports said. Sky Italia reported that the July 19 eruption was characterized by “intense Strombolian activity from the summit craters”. Credit: Giuseppe Distefano via Storyful
