'McCook Dodged a Bullet': Suspected Tornado Causes Damage Near Nebraska Town

A suspected tornado caused damage while passing close to McCook in Nebraska’s Red Willow County on Friday, May 17. Despite the damage, McCook Fire Chief Marc Harpham said the town had “dodged a bullet.” Harpham shared this video showing the vortex moving to the north-west of the town. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for McCook shortly beforehand. The weather service later told Storyful it could “tentatively say a tornado occurred between Culbertson and McCook,” based on reports, pictures and videos. A damage survey would be conducted on Saturday to confirm the tornado, the service said. Credit: Fire Chief Marc Harpham via Storyful
