Libraries that do not could lose state funding and its librarians could be fined $500 or imprisoned for up to a year. Ben Baker said Drag Queen Story Hour caused him to draft the bill. The bill would also create a 5-person parental library review board to review and screen library content. Missouri has other proposed bills that threaten the LGBTQ+ community by denying LGBTQ+ couples adoption rights & penalizing trans youth.
