This Art Installation Transmits the Sounds of a Dying Glacier
'Herald/Harbinger' is a permanent public art installation that plays 24 hours a day in an office park in Calgary. The piece by artists Jer Thorp and Ben Rubin captures the sounds of the Bow Glacier — which is located approximately 135 miles from Calgary and helps source 60% of the city's drinking water — using sensors. The sounds are transmitted in near-real time, with just a 5-minute delay. The installation's location in a busy office park makes listeners aware of how eerily close they are to the impacts of the climate crisis.
