GoPro footage shows mountaineers' last moments

Indian authorities have released a video showing the final visuals of a group of mountaineers whose bodies were recovered from the Himalayas in June after contact with them was lost on May 26. According to the BBC, the group of eight comprised four Britons, two Americans, an Australian, and an Indian. They were attempting to climb India’s second-highest peak, Nanda Devi. The climbers lost contact on May 26, according to Indian reports. The bodies were retrieved on June 23 by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), who released this footage on July 8. “Last visuals of the mountaineers’ team near the summit on unnamed peak near the #NandaDevi east. ITBP search team of mountaineers found the memory video device at 19K ft while they were searching the area where bodies were spotted,” the police said on Twitter. Four climbers who had separated from the larger group of 12 were rescued alive from Nanda Devi base camp on June 2. They told local officials that they had lost touch with the other eight climbers on May 26, the Hindustan Times reported. Credit: ITBP via Storyful
