Plane passengers capture Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano erupting

Plane passengers reported seeing Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano spewing ash on June 17. The eruption sent a plume of volcanic material a distance two or three miles into the sky, according to Mexico’s National Center for Prevention of Disasters. The agency has been monitoring Popocatepetl for several days and recorded 185 emissions of gas or ash from the volcano, according to the agency’s report. The agency issued a “Volcanic Traffic Light Yellow Phase 2 alert” and urged residents to be cautious and avoid the area.
