Drone Captures Smoke Billowing From Colorado's CalWood Fire

Drone footage shot on October 17 captured smoke billowing from the CalWood fire, which grew to nearly 9000 acres on October 19 and destroyed 26 homes, according to reports. This footage, shot by Dan Sinclair, offers a glimpse of the smoky conditions in northern Colorado, as the Centennial State grapples with a record-breaking wildfire season. Originally from Wisconsin, Dan Sinclair and his family were house-sitting for friends who live in Boulder. He told Storyful he had “never seen anything like this before.” “It affected our stay in that we were very concerned about possibly needing to evacuate as the fire came south across the ridges of the foothills,” he said. “We even went so far as to pack many of our things if we needed to evacuate in the middle of the night.” Though dwarfed by the nearby 200,000 acre Cameron Peak fire, the CalWood fire made history as Boulder County’s largest recorded wildfire, local media reported.
