El Dorado Fire Started by Gender Reveal Reaches 81 Percent Containment

The 22,600-acre El Dorado fire – which was started on September 5 by pyrotechnics at a gender reveal party – was 81 percent contained on September 24, authorities said. The blaze has burned across two counties in Southern California, and claimed the life of a firefighter on September 17. The fire has destroyed 20 structures, damaged four others, and injured 13 firefighters, fire officials said. The firefighter who died in the line of duty has been identified as Charles Morton, the squad boss on the Big Bear Interagency Hot Shot Crew.
