Visitors Clamor to Take a ‘Bath of the Damned’
Pilgrims in search of miracles have come to this area in eastern Algeria. In Arabic, this area is called Hammam-Meskhutin. In English, it’s known as The Bath of the Damned. Impressive travertine formations surround a grouping of 10 hot springs. Water temperatures there can reach up to 207 degrees F. The heat, in combination with mineral compounds in the water reportedly may give relief from symptoms of arthritis.
