Cyclone Trevor Whips Trees on Mornington Island as it Moves Towards Northern Territory

Mornington Island felt the force of Tropical Cyclone Trevor early on Saturday, March 23, as the storm moved across the Gulf of Carpentaria towards the Northern Territory bringing strong winds. The wind gusted to 102 km/h at around 6 am. Residents were urged to take cover by local politician Robbie Katter. Steve Hodder Watt, a resident who filmed this video, said: “All good here in Gununa/Mornington Island. Sadly the baby paw paw tree didn’t make it.” At the time of publication, Trevor was a category 4 storm off the coast at the Queensland and Northern Territory border and was on track to hit inland later in the day.
