Anti-Trump Rally: Beto O'Rourke Fires Up Crowd in El Paso

Former Democratic congressman Beto O’Rourke led a protest to counter President Trump’s pro-wall rally in the border town of El Paso, Texas, on the evening of February 11. Speaking to a crowd at the Chalio Acosta Park, located just metres from the Trump rally held at the El Paso County Coliseum at the same time, O’Rourke slammed Trump’s border wall and talked of unity, immigration and cultural diversity. “With the eye of the country upon us, all of us together are going to make our stand. Here in one of the safest cities in the United States of America. Safe not because of walls, but in spite of walls. Secure because we treat one another with dignity and respect. That is how we make our communities and our country safe. Prior to his own rally Trump mocked O’Rourke’s counter protest: “We have a line that is very long already. I mean you see what’s going on and I understand our competitor’s got a line too but it’s a tiny little line,” Trump said in a interview with media covered by CNN.
