Pig Kidneys Latest in Successful Transplant of Swine Organs in Humans
Just one week after a man with heart failure was given a genetically modified pig heart comes news of another medical milestone, as doctors transplanted pig kidneys into a human body. The patient, 57-year-old James Parsons, was critically injured in a motorcycle accident last September. Parsons had already been declared brain dead before the operation was conducted, so there was never any expectation that he would ever come out of the hospital. His children said he’d be honored.
