'Please Liberate Us': Djokovic Jokes With Fans Outside Adelaide Quarantine
World No1 Novak Djokovic has not hidden his displeasure at being in quarantine ahead of the Australian Open, hitting headlines this week with his requests for a shorter lockdown period, and more facilities for the players affected. The Serbian star seemed to see the lighter side of his situation in video recorded by a fan outside his quarters in Adelaide, however. In the footage by Jaspreet Singh, Djokovic is heard joking “Please liberate us!” during an exchange with fans from his balcony at the Majestic M Suites Hotel in North Adelaide. In a social media post on January 20, the tennis player defended the requests he’d made to officials earlier in the week, saying he’d had “good intentions” that were “misconstrued as being selfish, difficult and ungrateful”.
