Fisherman Throws Back Endangered Shark

An endangered shark will swim another day because of a conscientious fisherman. A 20-year-old university student named Alperen Uslu went fishing in the Mediterranean Sea off of southern Turkey. One fish seemed to be extra difficult, and required help to reel in. Alperen’s catch was a sandbar shark, a species that the International Union for Conservation of Nature calls “threatened.” The fins of sandbar sharks are considered highly valuable, but Alperen released this catch back into the wild.
