WASHINGTON -- After the DMV experienced a relatively dry winter last year, local snow plow businesses are happy to see some snow flakes finally fall in the region.

A Winter weather advisory has been issued for most of the DC-area beginning at 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday. A winter storm warning has also been issued for the mountains.

Several schools in the DC-area have already issued closings and delays ahead of the storm.

Tony Drosos, of Northern VA Grounds, said last winter was a tough time for his business.

"It was horrible," he said. "We didn't have a winter last year or the year before."

Drosos has already started pre-treating roads and driveways around Fairfax County. Locals crews have also started to do the same.

Route 50, through Fairfax County, had a brine treatment by 6 p.m.

Drosos said it is important to get ahead of any approaching storm.

"Anytime we get anything, it all adds up," he said.
