Lightning and Lava
Lightning and Lava
Volcanic lightning, or 'dirty thunderstorms', are a regular accompaniment to powerful volcanic eruptions. As ash and dust are ejected into the air vast electrical charges are generated which are then dissipated as enormous lightning bolts that ripple through the churning ash clouds. Join us as we look at some of the best examples of this phenomena captured on camera. Pictured: Sakurajima volcano in Japan.
