NASA planning to slam aircraft into asteroid for a save-the-plant-like experiment

NASA is performing a first-of-its-kind experiment, slamming a spacecraft into a small harmless asteroid millions of miles away. The mission is to determine if NASA can deflect an asteroid into a slightly tighter orbit around a nearby larger asteroid, throwing it off its course. NASA insists no asteroids are currently threatening the Earth, but they aim to be prepared if one comes our way.
