Northern Virginia Weather: Weekend Offers Sun, Increasing Warmth

STERLING, VA— Northern Virginia's weekend weather is expected to be considerably calmer than the wacky, hail-ridden system that roared through the area Friday afternoon. Look for lots of sunshine amid temperatures that grow warmer as the weekend progresses. So says the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets.

Saturday likely will feature isolated gusting winds and a chilly evening. After that, per the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "Calmer conditions take over Sunday. It's another seasonably cold start, but temperatures should head toward and past 60 by afternoon."

So there you go. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service's area bureau in Sterling:

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 53. Northwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 32. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 64. South wind 3 to 7 mph.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Monday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 51.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 58.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 40.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.
