A nationwide pattern change is set to begin this weekend – first impacting the Pacific Northwest with cooler temperatures and potentially bringing an end to the longest streak of dry weather on record for Seattle.

"Low level onshore flow will gradually increase through Saturday," says the National Weather Service Seattle office. "The change in the weather pattern will begin pushing the smoke out of the area [Friday] afternoon."

The rain will be a welcome change to a region that as of Tuesday (Aug. 8) evening, marked the 52nd consecutive day without measurable precipitation, surpassing the previous record of 51 days set in 1951. Seattle last recorded rainfall on June 17.

Critical fire weather continues across the Pacific Northwest. All campfires are restricted across central Oregon.
