Roof of Iconic East Texas Bar Partially Collapses After Heavy Rain

The roof of The Dixie Chicken, a well-known bar near the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, partially collapsed on Wednesday, May 27, during heavy rainfall. The video shows the water building up and bending the ceiling’s wooden beams before they collapse from the weight. College Station firefighters were called to the scene. There were a few customers inside the bar at the time of the incident, according to news reports, but no injuries were reported. The collapse did not harm any creatures in the bar’s popular rattlesnake enclosure, according to the same reports. College Station resident Lane Hahn captured the video from the bar. “There was a bad storm and the roof started leaking. The staff blocked off the area and made sure nobody was over there,” Hahn said. “Then the ceiling began to bow down and eventually the support beam broke.” Hahn told Storyful The Dixie Chicken is a well-known hangout in the area, particularly to Texas A&M University alum, since the bar is across the street from the campus and has been in that spot since 1974.
