Slow Zoom Reveals Lone Swimmer in Australian Rock Pool

Photographer Marjorie Beattie used her drone to zoom in slowly on a woman swimming in an otherwise empty rock pool in Mona Vale, a suburb about 15 miles north of Sydney, Australia, on July 7. The footage shows waves breaking on the coast as the drone descends and gets closer to the swimmer, who can be seen kicking across the 30-meter seawater pool below. During Australia’s summer months, rock pools – oceanside pools that are filled by the surf – are a popular alternative to swimming in the ocean off New South Wales, where rip currents and sharks can be prevalent. The high temperature in Sydney on July 7 was 63 F. Credit: Marjorie Beattie via Storyful
