Stratus Clouds Roll Over New Mexico Mountain Range

A cascade of stratus clouds rolled over the Sandia Crest mountain range near Albuquerque, New Mexico, on January 9, the same day a winter storm alert was in effect. Albuquerque resident Anni Hanna took this timelapse video while visiting a lookout point. Sharing the video to Instagram, Hanna described the clouds as “soft and flowing.” The National Weather Service in Albuquerque explained how the clouds formed, saying that the “persistent easterly upslope winds” cooled and condensed into stratus clouds.
