Drag Racer Rolls and Crashes Mercedes After Attempting to Outrun Police in Birmingham

A drag racer flipped and crashed his car after attempting to outrun police when he was spotted illegally racing in Birmingham, England, on July 23, 2018. The drag racer, Jamil Khan, was sentenced to 26 months and banned from driving for four years on Tuesday, August 13, after being found guilty of dangerous driving and failing to allow a sample to be analyzed. Khan was racing with a BMW driver on Hagley Road just moments before an unmarked police car identified him and set out to put a stop to the illegal racing. Khan took off when the police tried to speak to him, running a red light before reaching 90mph in a 30mph zone. Shortly afterwards, he collided with another vehicle, causing his Mercedes to flip and skid across the street. Khan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was eventually cut free from the crashed vehicle by emergency services and taken to the hospital for a head injury. His front seat passenger suffered minor injuries, as did the driver of the car that Khan had hit. According to the police, Khan smelled strongly of alcohol, but refused to allow a blood sample to be analyzed. Credit: Birmingham Police via Storyful
