NORTHWESTERN CATTARAUGUS COUNTIES...
TEMPERATURES...NOW IN THE UPPER 40S...WILL CHANGE LITTLE OR SLOWLY
RISE INTO THE LOWER 50S OVERNIGHT...AND SOAR TO NEAR 60 DEGREES ON
MONDAY.
WHILE RAINFALL WILL GENERALLY BE A THIRD INCH OR LESS THROUGH
TONIGHT...SNOWMELT IS WELL UNDERWAY AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH
MONDAY. THERE WILL ALSO BE A POTENTIAL FOR ICE JAM FLOODING. AN
ICE JAM AS FORMED ON THE CAZENOVIA CREEK NEAR THE SOUTHGATE
PLAZA...WHILE ANOTHER HAS FORMED IN BUFFALO CREEK UPSTREAM OF THE
BUFFALO RIVER. THESE JAMS WILL EXACERBATE THE FLOOD THREAT.
RESIDENTS NEAR CREEKS ARE URGED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PREPARE FOR
POSSIBLE FLOODING NOW...INCLUDING MOVING ITEMS FROM BASEMENTS.
RESIDENTS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO EVACUATE IF ICE JAMS FORCE WATER
OVER RIVER BANKS AS MOVING WATER IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION.
SINCE MANY STORM DRAINS ARE SNOW CLOGGED...MANY URBAN AREAS WILL
LIKELY EXPERIENCE FLOODING WITH SEVERAL FEET OF WATER POSSIBLY
ACCUMULATING ON SOME STRETCHES OF ROAD. RESIDENTIAL
BASEMENTS WILL START TO FLOOD DURING THIS TIME AS WELL.
IN ADDITION...VERY STRONG WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP MONDAY AND
MONDAY NIGHT. THESE WINDS COULD BRING DOWN SOME TREES AND POWER
LINES RESULTING IN SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES. THIS WILL CAUSE SUMP
PUMPS TO FAIL.
