Conor McGregor named highest paid athlete in the world over Messi, Ronaldo.

Former two-division UFC champion, Conor McGregor, has been named the highest paid athlete in the world by Forbes placing him above soccer stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. This is the first time McGregor has topped the list.

McGregor, who fought only once during the period Forbes is calculating earnings is said to have made $180 million over a 12 month period, $22 in the Octagon and $158 of endorsements and other earnings. A big bulk of his calculated earnings comes from the sale of his whisky, Proper No. Twelve, to Proximo Spirits for $150 million.

McGregor is only the third athlete (Roger Federer and Tiger Woods are the other two) to make more than $70 million outside of the physical sport they play.

McGregor is set to face off with Dustin Poirier for a trilogy fight. Both fighters have a win over the other with McGregor's loss being the most recent.
