Sonam Kapoor's big fat Punjabi shaadi was one of the biggest wedding extravaganzas of 2018. After dating for a few years, Sonam tied the knot with Delhi-based fashion entrepreneur Anand Ahuja on May 8 in Mumbai, in a traditional Sikh ceremony. Their anand karaj saw the couple's family members and close friends in attendance.

If their traditional wedding ceremony left many dreamy-eyed, the lavish reception party that evening was no less.

Right when fans were devouring the pictures from their wedding, Sonam announced a big change.

Within few minutes of tying the knot with Anand, Sonam's social-media accounts said her name was now 'Sonam Kapoor Ahuja'.

On both Instagram and Twitter, where Sonam is active, her name now is Sonam K Ahuja.

The decision of taking her husband's surname got her a lot of flak from her fans. The 32-year-old actress, who is known to be a feminist, came under fire from other feminists for this decision of hers.

However, Sonam is unperturbed by the outrage as she thinks it's a matter of choice. In an exclusive interview to India Today Television at Cannes International Film Festival 2018 where the actress walked for cosmetics and beauty giant L'Oreal Paris, Sonam said, "I have been engaged for a long time. It took me a long time to decide. It's a choice, at the end of the day."

She added, "And if people don't understand the concept of feminism, they need to go online and look at the description. And how do you know Anand has not changed his name?"

Maybe that answer will shut her critics up.

Once Sonam wraps up her Cannes sojourn this year, she will return to Mumbai to get back to her work commitments. She will next be seen in Veere Di Wedding with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhasker. The film is set to hit the screens on June 1.
