A café has decided to start serving scoops of ice cream on a bed of crispy French fries. Why? So that people write about it, probably.

Caffe Cream in Wallasey, Wirral, shared its new menu item on Facebook on Friday. It's a pot of chips with a healthy dollop of ice cream, a blend of salt and sugar, savoury fat and seaside indulgence.

"Guess what's now available in Birkenhead Park and New Brighton..." the parlour wrote. It appears you can combine the fried potatoes with any flavour of the dessert.

Caffe Cream has almost certainly taken inspiration from McDonald's customers who, in cult-like fashion, dip their French fries in milkshakes, sometimes even McFlurries. The combo is divisive – some swear by it, others think it disgusting.

And it's the same at Caffe Cream, where regulars have been discussing the move on Facebook. The dish has moved the conversation on. Fusing the foods together is one thing, creating a dedicated serve is pushing boundaries.

"What does everyone think of us doing more special offers like this in the future?," the shop wrote on its Facebook page. "Of course, if this goes well over the weekend we'll be sure to do more things like this but we'd love to hear what you think!"

The lovers replied...

Jasmine Boyd: "Ha ha my two year old can't think of anything better than dipping chips into ice cream! X".

Nickie Jones: "This is my childhood haha best flavours ever... Karen ClarkSophie Boon it's times like this my dad needs to be on Facebook xxx".

Jessie Murphy: "Oh.my.god. This is my heaven (lots of love heart smiley face emojis) Jase Wood please can we go today?"

And the haters scoffed...

Kate Reynolds: "I actually feel sick at the thought!"

Gemma Steele: "That's disgusting".

Ella Griffiths: "Sorry, what's going on here".
