The legendary board game Monopoly, which many believe to be the source of 73 per cent of all family disputes since 1935, is about to change forever.

The thimble is being replaced.

Before you get upset, the removal is due to a democratic fan vote run by the game's manufacturer Hasbro.

The classic piece lost out to other favourites such as the Scottie dog, the motorcar, and the top hat in a worldwide, public vote. The thimble lost, and so the thimble is to be ousted.

The thimble has been a Monopoly staple since the game launched in 1935. But it's not the first to have been unseated from the original series.

In 2013, the iron was ejected to make way for a cat. Old pieces such as the boot and battleship remain. They were introduced during the Great Depression, when capitalism failed the west, and things got out of hand.

Naturally, there's some outrage over the loss of the thimble.

But if people are upset, they've still got the chance to decide what they'd like to see come in. Choices include a hashtag, an emoji , a flip-flop, and a rubber duck. The new piece will arrive in August 2017.
