The 20-year-old defender has been AWOL since the beginning of the pre-season with no clear indication of a resolution as the defender seems intent on moving elsewhere. The Dutch manager Menzo feels Coetzee has not been fair to his fellow players by continuing his stay away.

“Very disappointed, for me it’s football and it’s a small world and it shows no respect for your teammates, for me. If it’s an issue with the club then keep it with the club, but don’t bring it into your teammates who work with you.”

Reports suggest that some of the PSL's big clubs, as well as interest from abroad, have unsettled the South African international. Ajax have also allegedly set an excessive asking price for the highly sought after defender.

Coetzee is the Urban Warriors' marquee player - he was named the club’s Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season in a challenging campaign. Menzo took over from Roger De Sa in December and navigated the club away from relegation. He has made it clear that Coetzee’s decisions are not in anyone’s best interests.

"It’s a bit silly and petty but okay, that’s it. We make choices in life and sometimes not the best choices. It’s a pity, it’s not good."

Ajax are currently short of experience in central defence, having just sold their Ghanaian defender Lawrence Lartey. It leaves only the want away Coetzee and Roscoe Pietersen with genuine PSL match time to their names.
