Arda Turan already thought he had chances of being signed by Barcelona before it actually happened last summer, even though he did have other possibilities in mind. "I honestly thought: 'If I play really well I'll go to Barça, because my style would fit in well there, but if I just play well, I'll end up going to Arsenal'," the Turkish player said in an interview with 'Diari Ara'.

The former Atlético de Madrid player speaks about Andrés Iniesta with the most absolute admiration: "He is my idol, a model to follow, because of how he plays and lives through this sport, and also as a person. He doesn't play football, he makes art. I spend alll day talking to him to improve and know everything about the way Barça play." Turan does not see himself as Luis Enrique's player number 12, and actually thinks he is playing a little too much. "I need time. I've not been able to play for almost six months and now I've been getting minutes for the last two and a half... I'm playing with the best players in the world and I'm sure that little by little I will improve and be given more of a leading role, but I am not in any way the player number 12" the midfielder said.

Turan describes Leo Messi as an "incredible" footballer, but says that he did not sign for Barcelona just to play alongside him, rather, to win titles. "He's very fast at everything, controlling, dribbling, challenging for the ball... But the most important thing of all is his tactical intelligence. It's incredible, it beats everything else. He's a really intelligent footballer. He has one talent that puts him above the rest: he thinks really fast and that means he can apply all of the other virtues quickly."

Comparisons with Atlético

The Turk also spoke about his time at Cholo Simeone's Atlético and what he learned from the Argentinian coach: "To be happy even when we were up against it. That if you focus hard you can reach whatever objectives you want and make your dreams come true. Without Messi, without Neymar, without Cristiano in your team... We were, above all, a team, an incredible group. Here at Barça it is different, good football, tiki-taka, a lot of ball... There, for four years, we were a family. Koke, Gabi, Juanfran, Filipe... they were my brothers. Here, they made me feel very welcome, they've made it all very easy for me and I hope that, before too long, it will be like it was at Atlético, a family, but there's still a little way to go before that happens."
