Gareth Bale had the job of firing the Clásico starting gun in front of the media. The Welshman was the first to meet the reporters and tell them that Madrid are not giving up the league as a lost cause and that they do hope to carry off at least one title this season.

Going for the Liga title: "Anything is possible. We know we are 10 points behind but we'll fight on until the end. If we win on Saturday we'll be seven points behind and you never know what might happen."

His form. "I guess things have changed a little since last season, this time round I've improved. This season I think I've been playing better. I'm growing, I'm in form and I hope to keep on improving."

His position. "I like to play centrally, but I can drift around. I like coming in off the right flank and having more freedom. I don't mind playing on the left, although I prefer playing centrally or on the right."

The atmosphere at Barcelona. "Of course the atmosphere at Barcelona is not going to affect us. Cruyff is a Barcelona legend, and on Saturday we will all pay our tributes to him, as we should. We're going there with the intention of winning, but we have to improve some things."

Adapting to Spain and Madrid. "I was playing well until my injury, and I'm more comfortable here. I speak a bit more Spanish, and I feel more comfortable in the dressing room. I've still got to do more and keep working at it. I feel I'm adapting better and I'm learning more about the country all the time. I like living here, although the meal times are different from in my country, and I'm trying to enjoy the culture. My family are also comfortable here. I'm under contract until 2019."

What Zidane asks of him. "Exactly the same as he asks of everyone else. To work as a team and to be united. To attack and defend together as a team. Now we're working together as a team and it helps if we all work together."

Are the BBC the best attacking trio in the world? "The three of us have a very good relationship and we play very well together but it's not up to us to say whether we're the best or not."

Tell us about the MSN. "They are world-class players and they do a great job. It'll be a great game on Saturday, one that everyone will be able to enjoy."

Zidane shouting on the touchline. "I'm not surprised Zidane gets angry. He reacts just like any other coach would. A gentle push in the right direction is never amiss. I hope to end the season by winning a trophy."

Sergio Ramos "He's a great captain and an excellent player. He leads by example and he's a warrior out on the pitch. A top guy and a great captain."

The Ballon d'Or: "I don't think too much about individual awards or the Ballon d'Or. I try to focus on playing and on improving. Individual awards aren't very important. I try to concentrate on winning as much as I can with Real Madrid. The rest will come with time."

The keys to the Clásico. "We have to score and win the game. We need to go out and attack Barcelona and exploit their weaknesses. If we perform to our best level, we are capable of winning."

Playing with less space "It's very different from the Premier League. There are fewer spaces but I'm getting better. It's good to have a bad season because you learn a lot, and I have improved over last season."
