Barcelona hammered Rayo Vallecano by a 1-5 scoreline and hold on to their comfortable points cushion at the top of the La Liga. This win means the Culés go past the unbeaten record set by Leo Beenhakker's Madrid.

Rayo came out bravely, pressing high up and challenging Barça for possession of the ball. The fun did not last long, though owing to a mistake by the goalkeeper Juan Carlos, which led to Barcelona's first goal, scored by Ivan Rakitic. Just a couple of minutes later, Messi doubled the visitors' lead and it was almost game over. The Vallecas faithful claimed a possible offside from Neymar in the move that led to the second goal, but it stood in the end. Rayo's hopes were destroyed by the red card shown to Llorente at the end of the first half when he went in a little high on Rakitic, even though he did win the ball.

The third goal came from Messi when he scored from a counter-attack in the 54th minute. Rayo's only goal would come three minutes later, when Manucho headed home. Things got worse for Rayo in the 68th minute, however, when Iturra was sent off for the foul that brought a penalty, even though Busquets was very possibly offside. Luis Suárez missed the spot kick, the seventh time Barcelona have managed that this season. Then came Messi's third and Arda Turan's first for Barcelona, and with that the scoring finished.
