Busacca to inform about how referees will officiate

The national side have now arrived in Curitiba, and today Del Bosque's men will receive a visit from Massimo Busacca, the man in charge of FIFA's referees, to tell them what criteria the officials will follow during the World Cup.

The newest thing at this tournament will be the use of a spray to indicate the distance players must stand from a dead ball, preventing defensive walls from encroaching as players take attacking free kicks. FIFA tried it out in junior tournaments and at the Club World Cup, and the results were good. For this, Blatter gave it the thumbs up for Brazil, and Busacca will today explain how it will be used. Goal line technology will also be on the agenda.

Also, as happens with each World Cup, they will emphasise that officials will take a no-nonsense approach to tackles from behind, with a straight red card being the only option. There will also be the issue of time-outs, where, when temperatures reach over 30 degrees after the 30 minute mark in each half of the games played in Natal Fortaleza (where Spain could play their second round game if they win the group), Recife and Manaus, there will be drinks breaks for the players.
