Carvajal and Iturraspe in Del Bosque’s 30 man list, no Arbeloa

Vicente Del Bosque has sent his list of 30 pre-selected players to FIFA for the 2014 World Cup and the Spanish Federation published them on their website this morning. The coach has included all the 2010 winners with the exception of Arbeloa, who wasn’t in the last call-up against Italy, and has included new players De Gea, Carvajal, Alberto Moreno, Iturraspe and Diego Costa. The definitive squad of 23 will be released on 25 May, after the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atlético.

Spain’s first World Cup match is on 13 June against Holland.

Del Bosque takes three keepers, with Manchester United’s De Gea coming in for injured Victor Valdés, who is still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The coach has only picked three out and out central defenders: Ramos, Piqué and Albiol, because his aim is to use Busquets and Javi Martínez (in that order) in the position if required.

The big concern for Del Bosque is to ensure the players who are currently carrying injuries are 100% fit for Brazil. He has a friendly against Bolivia on 30 May in the Sánchez Pizjuan to test them. Piqué, who injured his hip in the Champions League quarter-final against Atleti, is expected to be fit for this Saturday’s league decider. Thiago (partially torn knee ligament) is back training normally at Bayern. Jordi Alba and Navas, muscle strains, are recovering well. Del Bosque though has the margin of seven players to remove from the 30 if anyone isn’t fully fit.
