Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético Madrid, said today, just hours before the Champions League showdown against city rivals Real Madrid, that he’d be happy for their opponents to take the lead and for the rojiblancos to then score three. He also said that Diego Costa’s placenta based treatment had “gone well”.

“Am I nervous? Not at all. When the game starts we’ll see if I get jittery or not. I’d like Madrid to go ahead and then for us to get three, but each game is different and who knows – maybe we’ll score first and go on to win”, said Cerezo before the traditional Director’s Lunch.

“The game is tough for both sides. I think there will be a lot of nerves and I just hope everything goes well for Atlético” said the president, who added that his club “had had lots of important games”, but as of now “and in this century, this is the most important”.

“40 years ago (in the final of the European Cup against Bayern Munich in Brussels) we had terrible luck when they scored in the last minutes and since then we’ve been trying to get back there. And now here we are in Lisbon. We’re hoping for a great game, we’ve got a great side, a magnificent coach and amazing fans and I hope we win, which isn’t to say we will”, he continued.

If Atleti do win Cerezo said it would be “the start of a new era for Atlético, with economic, social and sporting changes".
