Only Juanfran, whose inclusion in Vicente Del Bosque’s travelling party was finalised at the last minute due to an ankle problem, trained away from the group.

Costa – who was found to have suffered a micro-tear in his right hamstring a week ago – took part as Del Bosque organised a training match without goalkeepers, and offered no signs of discomfort.

Monday’s session was the first attended by the seven Real Madrid and Atlético players (Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, David Villa, Costa, Koke and Juanfran) who had been given a week off after the Champions League final.

The squad’s training match offered few clues as to Del Bosque’s plans, with the Spain coach including all four possible centre-forwards – Cesc Fàbregas, Fernando Torres, Costa and Villa – in the same side.

Spain fly to Washington on Monday, where they will take on El Salvador on 7 June. The world and European champions then travel to their World Cup base in Curitiba.
