Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli says he has studied Spain thoroughly ahead of their meeting at the Maracaná. The Argentine is an avid studier of video analysis, just like his mentor, Marcelo 'el Loco' Bielsa.

From the moment the referee blew for full time in the Chile-Australia tie, Sampaoli has been 100% focussed on Spain. He knows that there is a huge chance to make history, and is leaving nothing to chance. For this he has watched the last meetings between the two sides numerous times. The recent friendly in Switzerland (September 2013) and the 2-1 defeat, when Bielsa was in charge, in South Africa are just two of these matches being studied.

Routine. Sampaoli is a creature of habit. He wakes up at 7am every day, and gets to work. He has a meeting with his team of assistants at 9am to prepare for the day's session. At 1.30pm he meets them again to evaluate the training session and talk about the next opponent. During the afternoons and evenings he methodically watches videos to find his opponent's weaknesses. He sleeps very little, and you'd bet he's sleeping even less thinking about Spain.
