Diego Costa is not staying with the rest of the Spain squad in the halls of residence at the Ciudad de Fútbol but his condition is a serious concern for coaching staff during these first few days of preparations for Friday’s friendly against Bolivia.

The striker was in Las Rozas on Tuesday to undergo a further examination by Doctors Cota and Celada. Television cameras from Antena 3 captured Costa’s arrival at the Federation headquarters where he also underwent physiotherapy sessions.

While Vicente Del Bosque is quietly optimistic that Costa will recover in time to be included in his definitive World Cup squad list, the uncertainty remains. Del Bosque is insisting that any decision must be based on the doctors’ prognosis alone and not on how the player himself is feeling - Costa has already misjudged the severity of his injury in the Champions League final.

The squad meanwhile are 100 per cent behind the player and are all hoping he will join them in Brazil. De Gea and Fernando Torres have stated their desire to wait until the final minute to give him the maximum amount of time to for his hamstring to heal.

Del Bosque will wait until Friday before considering Costa’s chances. There is no doubting the player’s ability, at the moment it’s just a question of biding time and hoping for the best.
