Girondins de Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud affirmed today that the French club have been negotiating with Zinedine Zidane with a view to hiring the Real Madrid assistant coach and sporting director.

“We’re looking for a new coach; we can’t deny that we have been negotiating with Zidane,” Triaud said in a press conference today.

The president added that all of the potential candidates for the coaching post at Girondins have been informed about the club’s budget and what their project entails – “If they’re not in agreement with our proposals, we don’t even begin to open talks,” he explained.

Girondin’s largest single shareholder, Nicolas de Tavernost told ‘L’Express’ last week that the club were interested in bringing Zidane on board: “What is a football-based business? It is about entertainment and if you have the best actor in the ‘show’, you’ll do better. So for us, having Zidane on board would be incredible”.

A few weeks ago, Zidane hinted that he feels ready to take the leap to become a head coach himself, after one year as Carlo Ancelotti’s aide-de-camp.
