It was Juanfran’s turn to face reporters in the Atlético de Madrid press room on Wednesday. The full-back, who was groomed in Real Madrid’s youth academy, looked ahead to Saturday’s meeting with his former club in the Champions League final.

Diego Costa: “Let’s hope he comes back from Belgrade fully recovered. He is an extremely important player for us and anything that can help him get better is welcome”.

Sergio Ramos’ comments that Atlético are the favourites: “I think Sergio was trying to fool people with what he said yesterday. I know him – he’s one of the best players in the world. We shared the same dressing room with the national side; as far as his comments are concerned, I’m sure he doesn’t really think that. They want us to start believing that we are the better team but that’s not going to happen. There are no favourites; we’ll be going into the match with the same humility as we always do”.

Differences between last season’s Copa del Rey final and Saturday’s Champions League final: “I’ll give you an example: last year it seemed that Real Madrid were the stronger side and around that time, I said that there were no favourites. We are the same team as the one which played the Copa del Rey final although we have really grown; let’s hope we can get a similar result this time”.

The key to success on Saturday: “We have to do exactly the same as we have on other occasions – play an intense game, play as a team, remain focused, pay attention to detail and be a great side. Those are the keys to winning the match”.
