Spain's Sports Arbitration Court (Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte, TAD in its Spanish intials) has unanimously upheld the Spanish Football Federation's decision to disqualify Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey for the improper line-up of Denis Cheryshev in the first leg of the tie with Cádiz. After this decision, Real Madrid now only have the option of taking their case to the civil courts if they are to have any chance of being readmitted to the competition.

The TAD could not be any clearer in its resolution. At the end of a 22-page press release, it says: "... this Court rules to dismiss the appeal lodged by Real Madrid Club de Fútbol against the resolution adopted on December 10th 2015 by the Appeals Committee of the Spanish Football Federation, which upholds that of the Competition Committee of December 4th 2015, in which it found improper line-up of the Real Madrid C.F. player, Denis Cheryshev, in the game played between Cádiz, C.F.SAD and Real Madrid CF on December 2nd."

The TAD itself said that the resolution is definitive within the ambit of the sports administration and that Real Madrid have the option of appealing to the civil courts within two months. Real Madrid have reacted quickly and have issued an official statement confirming that they will take this course of action.

"The club respects but does not agree with the Court's ruling and as such announces its decision to pursue a judicial-administrative course of action, along with other possible legal options, which are currently being studied" says the official announcement posted on the website of the club led by Florentino Pérez.
