The photo that sums up the current Real Madrid

When Cristiano Ronaldo scored Real Madrid's first goal against Roma, he ran like a man possessed over to the technical area to give his manager, Zinedine Zidane, a bear hug with Sergio Ramos as a first-hand witness. The image says everything about Real Madrid at the moment and contrasts starkly with that of the team with Rafa Benítez in the Blanco dugout. Cristiano Ronaldo does not make empty gestures, as he showed the day before the match by appearing at the press conference with the French coach after two years of refusing to talk to the Champìons League microphones. This was a thump on the table to show his strong support for the current Blanco manager.

Curiously, this photo came only a few hours after Ronaldo had, in the same press conference, been critical of the hugs that the Barcelona front three constantly give each other. But this was a different kettle of fish. CR wanted to immortalise the moment and send a message to the club's top brass.

Zidane's take on it was: "It is a sign to say that we have to do this again. We are still a long way from May 28th [the date of the Champions League final]. We have to think about the return leg, which will be difficult, but I am happy as manager to see my players celebrating like that, all together. It is joyful to see and we want to do it again."
