Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 1 Barcelona

FC Barcelona finished off their Champions League Group Stage with an undemanding draw in Germany. The reigning champions, who were already through to the next stage as group leaders, played out a lacklustre final game with few goalscoring chances on either side and that demanded little of them, less than was expected. From the outset, Bayer Leverkusen failed to give the impression that they were the only team in need of the points. The Germans, who had surprised Barça with their intense pressure in the first game at the Camp Nou, came out with much less zeal this time around. As a result, Barcelona's less experienced midfield, with Kaptoum and Samper playing alongside Rakitic, and Munir and Sandro forming an attacking trio with Messi, could breathe easily and had little to worry about.

The two seniors player were responsible for the 0-1 lead that Barcelona took, on 20 minutes. The Croatian fed in the Argentinean who jinked past Leno with his left foot and placed the ball into the empty net with his right. Chicharito then took only three minutes to level, latching on to a poor clearance by the Barça defence after a cross from the left. Despite the exchange of blows, and another great chance for Messi, the game was lacking in tension, which was understandable from the visitors' point of view but inexplicable on the part of the hosts. Bayer disputed possession of the ball with Barça, a stat that is always interesting to see when it comes to a game with the Azulgranas. But press as they might in the final stages, in which they forced Ter Stegen into action on mumerous occasions, they will have to make do with qualification for the Europa League. Roma take second place in the group, and will not have to face Barça again, at least not in the Round of Sixteen.
