“This World Cup is a bit of an obsession for me because it is going to be really special. We’ll be playing in the cradle of football,” said Pepe Reina on his arrival at the Ciudad de Fútbol as Spain begin their preparations for the tournament and Friday’s friendly against Bolivia.

“We’re going to try to become world champions again but we know that it’s going to be difficult; other teams are catching up to us and it just keeps getting more difficult,” the keeper continued.

David de Gea meanwhile, said, “I’ve come here to enjoy the experience and try to win a place in the side. I’m very happy; I’m delighted to be back here with the Spain squad.

“It’s been a long and tough season for a lot of players, but this is the best national side in the world and let’s hope we can successfully defend the World Cup,” he added. The keeper also had words for Gerard Deulofeu, who has been called by the senior side for the first time. “We’ve spent a few years playing together with the Under-21s, playing well and trying to emulate the senior side’s style of football. A few very talented players are coming through from the lower categories,” said de Gea.
