Xavi Hernández was chosen to speak on behalf of the dressing room. Here is what he said:

"I speak for everyone. Puyol, mate, this moment seemed so far away when we came into the first team, and now it has arrived. Everyone's time passes, and more so when you're a sportsman. The word that has been most commonly heard today is "thanks". We have a lot to thank you for: sacrifice, bravery, generosity. I'll never for get the final at Wembley when I told you that you should lift the cup, even though you'd only played for a few minutes, and you turned round and said to me: "No, Xavi, Abidal has to lift the cup". You gave me a life lesson. You've always been there for everyone, for the injured, for those who played less, giving them encouragement and advice".

"You've given everything to this team. I remember our games of football-tennis in the dressing room when you did overhead kicks like an animal, despite the floor being wooden. You're the most professional player I've ever shared a dressing room with. You've been there when we didn't win, and when we've won everything, and for this we have always valued what we've achieved. I'm so proud to have shared my career with you, and I would love to share a project with you here the club in the future. You are Barcelona, and the club needs you".
